When a media outlet sues another media outlet, precedents are created, which eventually make the media field more transparent and open.
Website news.am considered the Facebook post made by journalist for 1in.am, Sona Harutyunyan to be slander, which has damaged the website’s business reputation, and has filed a lawsuit against her.
This case has become an opportunity to distinguish the difference between a journalist’s article and social network post, since both are public publications.
Sona Harutyunyan thinks that this post has gained more attention and spread after the suit, and consequently harmed the business reputation of news.am even more.
She considers her social network page to be a personal space and doesn’t want to be confused with her Facebook posts. Especially when her employer media outlet did not identify possible social media restrictions when signing a contract with them.
