In 2023 and 2024, media consumption habits in Armenia remained stable, with no significant changes observed.
The annual survey on freedom of speech and media consumption in RA supports this.
80% of respondents rely on Armenian TV channels as their primary media source, while 73% use Armenian news websites. Additionally, 48% of respondents consume content from Armenian blogs, vlogs, and podcasts, which have become increasingly popular recently. Meanwhile, 47% receive information from Russian TV channels.
Among the respondents, 95% consume media through a working TV, while 84% access it through an Internet connection, either via Wi-Fi or a fixed-line.
There has been no change in the survey results regarding the primary sources of social and political news, which remain consistent with the 2023 findings. According to the survey, the primary source is social networks, with 62% of respondents choosing this option, followed by television at 45%.
The most frequently watched sources are:
Armenia” TV Company (66%),
Shant TV Company (50%),
and The First Channel (45%).
Respondents reported watching these three TV channels at least once a week.
These are followed by the Russian TV channels, which account for 18%. This distribution has stayed the same since 2023. In 2024, nearly all channels maintained the same order.
The only exceptions are Yerkir Media, which did not make the top ten TV channels listed by respondents in 2024, and Nor Hayastan TV company, which was not in the top ten in 2023 but entered the top ten in 2024.
The results from both 2023 and 2024 indicate that Armenia and Shant TV stations are the most popular. This suggests that television, particularly these channels, is primarily used for entertainment. While their main focus is not on delivering social and political news, these channels offer analytical programs that can provide insights into social and political issues.
According to the findings, 27% of respondents listen to at least one radio station weekly. The most frequently mentioned stations were Radio Aurora (17%), Public Radio of Armenia (17%), and Radio Jan (14%).
Regarding news sites, 72% of respondents said they visit at least one news site weekly. The most frequently mentioned sites are:
Azatutyun.am (17%),
1in.am (13%),
News.am (10%).
Overall, compared to 2023, there has not been a significant change in the rankings. The only noticeable shift involves News.am and Azatutyun.am. Previously, News.am was the most popular news site in Armenia, with Azatutyun.am in second place. However, according to recent survey results, the positions of these two websites have reversed over the past two years, with respondents now mentioning Azatutyun.am more frequently.
15% of respondents reported reading at least one print media at least once a week. Among these readers, the TV Alik weekly newspaper was the most popular, with 9% mentioning it, followed by Hraparak at 6%. In 2023, only 5% of respondents read at least one print media source weekly, with Aravot being the most frequently cited publication at 2%.
