Armen Koloyan has been announced as the competition winner to fill the vacant executive director position of the Public Radio Company of Armenia. Five out of the six members of the public broadcaster’s board voted in favor of his candidacy.

Nazeli Ohanyan received one vote from the other seven candidates who applied for the vacant position of Public Radio director; the other participants received no votes during the voting process.

Garegin Khumaryan, the former director of public radio, recently posted on Facebook that he had reasonable doubts about whether the election result had already been decided. He believed that Armen Koloyan would be recognized as the winner among the candidates in the competition.

After the competition, he announced his intention to appeal the results in court.

Ara Shirinyan, the Chairman of the Council of the Public Broadcaster, declined to provide any comments during our conversation. He only stated that the discussions in the press and on social networks about the competition for the vacant position of Public Radio Director are artificial. He also mentioned that the media’s curiosity about the topic is groundless.

Armen Koloyan, a long-time employee of Azatutyun Radikoyan who is currently in the Czech Republic, mentioned in his message to us that he regards the contest participants as his colleagues. He emphasized that they are primarily concerned about the fate of Public Radio and that he respects their opinions regarding the contest’s results.

“Further clarifications and comments will only be possible after thoroughly analyzing the situation. I thank the participants, as I believe each tried to present the best concept. I am certain that there are valuable ideas within the projects, which, if the authors agree, can be discussed and included in the work agenda of the Public Radio,” wrote Armen Koloyan.
