The list of participants for the national competition to license the use of slots in public multiplex has been announced by the Television and Radio Committee (TRC). Two television companies, “Husaber” CJSC (Yerkir Media TV Company) and “Vivaro Media” LLC, have submitted applications.
As per the commission’s decision, both television companies are required to publish their applications and supporting documents on August 2, 2023.
In 2022, a competition was held by the TRC to license the use of slots in the public multiplex. The number of available slots was reduced from 5 to 4 due to a court ruling that froze the competition for one of the slots.
Consequently, starting from January 21, 2023, Yerkir Media’s broadcasting was suspended due to a legal dispute over the fifth slot that they could have occupied.
However, in March 2023, an amendment to the law on “Audiovisual Media” allowed Yerkir Media to return back on the air after a five-month suspension. The channel resumed terrestrial broadcasting on June 30.
Which of the two television stations will be granted the broadcasting rights will be determined this fall.
