I would like to see our media free, independent, outside of all types of stereotypes, and truthful,&#8221; says Armenian State University of Economics Department of Management student Haykuhi Grigoryan, the winner of this year&#8217;s I Am the Media contest.<\/p>\n<p>This is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.media.am\/en\/I-am-the-Media-contest-results\">the second time<\/a> the Media Initiatives Center [the organization also responsible for this site] has held the I Am the Media contest, this time proposing participants submit work in one of five categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I trust\/don&#8217;t trust media outlets<\/li>\n<li>I look at the world through the media<\/li>\n<li>I prepare broadcast reports<\/li>\n<li>I, at the intersection of war reporting and propaganda<\/li>\n<li>I am the media<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of the 18 entries received, the authors of the top four received prizes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Haykuhi Grigoryan with contest jury member Lilit Galstyan\" src=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/8\/7781\/28463101241_3bdea5b81b_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Writing about her personal experiences and journalistic experience during April&#8217;s Four-Day War was second-place winner Mariam Mkrtchyan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach member of society is a carrier of the media, the media\u2019s transmitter. I believe the media is the main method of uniting society,\u201d says Yerevan State University Faculty of Journalism student Mariam Mkrtchyan.<\/p>\n<p>The other award-winners had selected the I Am the Media category, each in their own way understanding and presenting media&#8217;s &#8220;character,&#8221; role, and task in modern society.<\/p>\n<p>In third place was American University of Armenia Department of English and Communications student Kristine Soloyan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can&#8217;t avoid being the media, since we constantly communicate with people, we receive and impart information at any given moment. We are born media. And now time obliges [us] to be good media, since today people interact with information more,&#8221; says Kristine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Kristine Soloyan and contest jury member Lilik Stepanyan\" src=\"https:\/\/c4.staticflickr.com\/9\/8680\/28463098611_cdd9efd4c8_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yerevan State University Faculty of Journalism student Suren Stepanyan received the I Am the Media contest&#8217;s encouragement award. In his opinion, journalists have to be more conscientious and educate themselves, since if their education is weak and incomplete, it might harm people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Media Initiative Center (MIC) is actively engaged in spreading media literacy in Armenia, collaborating with schools, universities, state institutions, and NGOs. The I Am the Media contest is an opportunity for students to reflect on and describe the media&#8217;s role in their lives, and the work of journalists and media outlets.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Suren Stepanyan and contest jury member Gegham Vardanyan\" src=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/8\/7795\/28463103001_365276f183_o.jpg\" style=\"width:100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>MIC&#8217;s media literacy projects are part of the Media for Informed Civic Engagement program, which is funded by USAID.<\/p>\n<p>Support for the prizes of this year&#8217;s winners was provided also by Ucom, BarCamp Yerevan, Zangak Publishing House, and Journalists for the Future NGO.<\/p>\n<p>I Am the Media contest winners&#8217; work will be published in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.media.am\/en\/category\/vox-populi\">Vox Populi section<\/a> of Media.am.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteright\"><strong>Anna Barseghyan<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;I am the media because I try to break stereotypes by all possible means and be as I would everyone else to be, thanks to the media.
