



{"id":5100,"date":"2015-05-01T09:38:16","date_gmt":"2015-05-01T09:38:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/media.am\/on-the-scene-ani-gevorgyan\/"},"modified":"2015-05-01T09:38:16","modified_gmt":"2015-05-01T09:38:16","slug":"on-the-scene-ani-gevorgyan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/media.am\/en\/newsroom\/2015\/05\/01\/5100\/","title":{"rendered":"On the Scene: Ani Gevorgyan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2008, Ani Gevorgyan was a student at the Faculty of Journalism at the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University when she, along with members of her family, began to take an active interest in political processes.<\/p>\n<p>It was then that she received an offer to work as a journalist for the daily <em>Hayk<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In the newsroom, she noticed the digital camera ignored by others and began to take an interest also in photojournalism. She currently works at the daily <em>Chorrord Ishkhanutyun<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She is also in charge of the information committee of the youth wing of the Armenian National Congress.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Ani Gevorgyan\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7689\/17330070985_7d3d8f8aa8.jpg\" style=\"display:block; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; width:100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The camera became a serious tool for me because through it I was able to capture the attacks on activists and representatives of mass rallies. That is, initially, I mainly used photography to serve the purpose of recording crimes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtecenter\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pC1k73k9jS8\" width=\"853\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Gevorgyan has come in contact with police on several occasions: she was twice detained while carrying out her professional activities, while this past New Year&#8217;s Eve, her and her brother&#8217;s work equipment \u2014 cameras, a computer, and electronic storage media \u2014 was stolen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The criminal case concerning the theft was recently suspended.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Ani Gevorygyan\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7677\/17330071035_d60bc37bcf.jpg\" style=\"display:block; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; width:100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;That the case was dropped proves that the theft occurred with a clear purpose and [under] clear instructions. Ruling this out, naturally, is not possible, since the criminals cannot reveal themselves and punish themselves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Ani Gevorgyan\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7790\/17329673561_589fd2fced.jpg\" style=\"display:block; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; width:100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In Armenia, every journalist is one day faced with a choice: to continue to work as an independent journalist with many problems or join any well-known media organization and fulfill clear orders.
