I contacted the <a href=\"http:\/\/psrc.am\/en\/\">Public Services Regulatory Commission<\/a> (PSRC) and received the data collected with this new method.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;According to the Government of the Republic of Armenia&#8217;s 2013 method on Calculating the Number of Internet Users, the number of internet users, according to the proportion of the population, was 32% in 2011, 40.49% in 2012, and 45.35% in 2013,&#8221; was the Commission&#8217;s response.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><script id=\"infogram_0_internet-penetration-in-armenia-\" src=\"\/\/e.infogr.am\/js\/embed.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 100%; border-top: 1px solid #acacac; padding-top: 3px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10px; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"\/\/infogr.am\/internet-penetration-in-armenia-\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: #acacac; text-decoration: none;\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Internet penetration in Armenia (%)<\/a> | <a href=\"\/\/infogr.am\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: #acacac; text-decoration: none;\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Create Infographics<\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-gov.am\/u_files\/file\/decrees\/arc_voroshum\/2013\/01\/qax1-21.pdf\" style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\">new method<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\"> [AM], in fact, had a negative impact on the indicators of internet users in Armenia. According to other data provided by the PSRC, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.internetworldstats.com\/asia\/am.htm\" style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\">60.6% of Armenia&#8217;s population<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\"> used the internet in December 2011.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\">The numbers decreased, and it&#8217;s possible that playing a role in this is the new method, according which, for example, measured internet users between the ages of 15 to 74.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\">In order to understand the most recent figure (45.35% in 2013), let me state that this is not the amount of internet-connected devices (computers, tablets, smartphones, phones, iPods, and so on) in Armenia. It is the number of internet users, and it is calculated with the joint efforts of the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/armstat.am\/en\/\" style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\">National Statistical Service<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\">, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtc.am\/main.php?lang=3&amp;page_id=643\" style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\">Ministry of Transport and Communication<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 20.3999996185303px;\">, and the PSRC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Without comment, let me cite some more data, which I received from the PSRC: In 2013, 45.2% (or 1,166,342 people) of people in Armenia connected to the internet with a broadband connection, which, according to the PSRC, includes mobile 3G technology.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This figure, however, measures the number of internet-connected devices not the number of internet users.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>Gegham Vardanyan<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">In January 2013, the Armenian government <a href=\"http:\/\/gov.am\/am\/news\/item\/10160\/\">developed<\/a> [AM] a new method to determine the internet penetration rate in Armenia.
