One of the deleted posts referred to the Armenian churches in Baku, which were destroyed by the Azerbaijanis over time. The reason for the dismissal was the insults and hate speech against the Azerbaijanis in the post.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision to create the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oversight_Board_(Facebook)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oversight Board<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was made in 2018. It was going to try to improve the process of Facebook users&#8217; complaints, to filter it from hate speech and calls for violence. The platform started its activity in 2020. The further fate of the removed records is decided by the same body as a result of consultations with independent experts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let&#8217;s try to understand how real the claims of the user are and whether it was correct to block the latter&#8217;s post.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Which post are we talking about?<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The author of the problematic post is user Areg Barseghyan. On November 2, the latter <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Barseghyan.Areg\/posts\/710037813204863\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a photo taken in Baku at the beginning of the 20th century, underlining the churches built in the center of the city with a red circle and writing next to them that none of them are preserved now. The user also mentioned that, unlike Azerbaijan, mosques in Armenia are being reconstructed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25261 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"671\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku1.png 671w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku1-260x300.png 260w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 671px) 100vw, 671px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook removed this post the very next day when it managed to have more than 6,000 shares, spread widely on Telegram and Facebook, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blognews.am\/rus\/news\/717704\/?fbclid=IwAR0nNV72bmJYNv6wO-C-MC6k3H8MBCjaJN46lF2sNVIMkKBUFJOh0xPn44M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">appeared<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the news.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25263 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"764\" height=\"820\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku2.png 764w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku2-280x300.png 280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 764px) 100vw, 764px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25265 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"683\" height=\"695\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku3.png 683w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku3-295x300.png 295w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interestingly, the post republished by other users was not removed, unlike the original.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hate speech, according to Facebook<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oversightboard.com\/news\/719406882003532-announcing-the-oversight-board-s-first-cases-and-appointment-of-trustees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Areg Barseghyan&#8217;s post contained hate speech. Particularly problematic was the use of the word &#8220;\u0442.\u0430.\u0437.\u0438.\u043a.\u0438&#8221;, with which the user describes &#8220;Azerbaijanis destroying churches.&#8221; The social network has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/communitystandards\/hate_speech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the criteria for differentiating hate speech and expressions, which have 3 levels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Level one<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expressions aimed against people or groups of people that degrade dignity by comparing them to this or that group\/person.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most commonly used (and banned on Facebook) words in such cases are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. dirt, bacteria, diseases and excretion<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. second-class people or &#8220;non-humans&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. statements that exclude the existence of any entity<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Jews and Muslims<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Comparisons that violate the dignity of the person, including the comparison of people with dark skin with monkeys<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The complete <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/communitystandards\/hate_speech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">list<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Level two<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Phrases that attempt to evoke a sense of inferiority in a person or group of people in order to re-target their physical and intellectual abilities. In such cases, the frequently used words (prohibited by Facebook) are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. dirty, unclean (unwashed) etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. ugly, horrible etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. stupid, ignorant, crazy etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The complete <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/communitystandards\/hate_speech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">list<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Level three<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Content that causes discrimination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2024 calls for discrimination<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2024 calls for isolation, expulsion<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2024 social isolation when calls are made to block access to various platforms (including online)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The complete <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/communitystandards\/hate_speech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">list<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Areg Barseghyan&#8217;s description &#8220;t.a.z.i.k.i.&#8221; addressed to Azerbaijanis can be included in the list of expressions that violate the dignity of the person, which are compared to people&#8217;s things or phenomena in order to subordinate them. In this regard, we can say that Facebook editors were not wrong. However, it is interesting why Areg Barseghyan&#8217;s post was included in the first list, when there are hundreds of thousands of similar comments and posts.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Were the user&#8217;s claims true or false?<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to various sources (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/armenpress.am\/arm\/news\/1004107.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1<\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/hy.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D4%B1%D5%A4%D6%80%D5%A2%D5%A5%D5%BB%D5%A1%D5%B6%D5%AB_%D5%B0%D5%A1%D5%B5%D5%AF%D5%A1%D5%AF%D5%A1%D5%B6_%D5%A5%D5%AF%D5%A5%D5%B2%D5%A5%D6%81%D5%AB%D5%B6%D5%A5%D6%80%D5%AB_%D6%81%D5%A1%D5%B6%D5%AF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/ru.armeniasputnik.am\/society\/20180408\/11320567\/sudba-armyanskoj-cerkvi-v-baku-ili-zachem-azerbajdzhanki-poseshchali-surb-grigor-lusavorich.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 3<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) before the establishment of the Soviet regime, there were 5 Armenian churches in Baku: Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator, Church of the Holy Virgin, St. Thaddeus-Bartholomew Cathedral, the Resurrection Chapel and the Armenian-Lutheran Church. As of 1989, only 2 Armenian churches remained standing: St. Astvatsatsin and St. Gregory the Illuminator. It is located in the center of the city, next to Fountain Square, on Nizami Street. It was completely destroyed in the 1930s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25281 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"622\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku11.jpg 622w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku11-233x300.jpg 233w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 622px) 100vw, 622px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The location of the church, however, is further away from the pictured part of Baku. It was located on what is now <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D0%A3%D0%BB%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%B0_%D0%A8%D0%B0%D0%BC%D1%81%D0%B8_%D0%91%D0%B0%D0%B4%D0%B0%D0%BB%D0%B1%D0%B5%D0%B9%D0%BB%D0%B8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Badalbeyli Street in Shamsi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, about 700 meters from the Maiden&#8217;s Tower, and the structure does not look like any of the churches in the picture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25283 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku12.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"787\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku12.png 1200w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku12-300x197.png 300w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku12-1024x672.png 1024w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku12-768x504.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The small church directly in front of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hy.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D4%BF%D5%B8%D6%82%D5%B5%D5%BD%D5%AB_%D5%A1%D5%B7%D5%BF%D5%A1%D6%80%D5%A1%D5%AF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maiden Tower<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hy.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=%D5%8D%D5%B8%D6%82%D6%80%D5%A2_%D5%80%D5%A1%D6%80%D5%B8%D6%82%D5%A9%D5%B5%D5%B8%D6%82%D5%B6_%D5%B4%D5%A1%D5%BF%D5%B8%D6%82%D5%BC_(%D4%B2%D5%A1%D6%84%D5%B8%D6%82)&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Holy Resurrection Chapel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25285 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"753\" height=\"453\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku13.jpg 753w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fb-baku13-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 753px) 100vw, 753px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It operated during 1892-1936.
