This research has revealed some interesting facts. For example, 99% of Sputnik Armenia visitors come from Russia, and 20% of Azerbaijani Oxy.az traffic comes from Armenia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Media.am presents a short version of the research.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local media have a larger audience than Sputnik<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the three South Caucasus republics, DFRLab surveyed Sputnik website traffic, Sputnik content on social media, and audience engagement. DFRLab compared these data with the data of three local neutral media: Armenian CivilNet, Azerbaijani Oxy.az and Georgian Netgazeti.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the months of the study (May-July 2020), local media outlets were visited 25.5 million times, and Sputnik websites &#8211; 19 million times. However, the traffic of Armenian Sputnik was significantly higher than that of CivilNet. In Georgia, Sputnik&#8217;s traffic was inferior to the local media, and in Azerbaijan &#8211; slightly higher.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-24041 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/sputnik-network-1.png\" alt=\"\u057d\u057a\u0578\u0582\u057f\u0576\u056b\u056f \u0581\u0561\u0576\u0581\" width=\"819\" height=\"449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/sputnik-network-1.png 819w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/sputnik-network-1-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/sputnik-network-1-768x421.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both local media and Sputnik prefer Facebook to social networks. More than half of CivilNet and Netgazeti traffic comes from Facebook, while only 6% of Oxy.az visits come from Facebook. In the case of Sputnik, only a significant part of the visits to the Georgian website (41.67%) came from the social network, while the Armenian-Azerbaijani websites were accessed by Facebook only by 3.72% of users and 9.40%, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geography of visits<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">60% of the visits of three Sputniks in the South Caucasus come from Russia, and in the case of Sputnik Armenia, the overwhelming majority of visitors &#8211; 99% &#8211; come from Russia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is interesting that 20% of the visits of the Azerbaijani Oxy.az in May-July were from Armenia. And the users of Azerbaijan and Georgia mainly did not visit the media of neighboring countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-24043 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/sputnik-network-2.png\" alt=\"\u057d\u057a\u0578\u0582\u057f\u0576\u056b\u056f \u057d\u0578\u0581\u056b\u0561\u056c\u0561\u056f\u0561\u0576 \u0581\u0561\u0576\u0581\" width=\"1500\" height=\"982\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/sputnik-network-2.png 1500w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/sputnik-network-2-300x196.png 300w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/sputnik-network-2-1024x670.png 1024w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/sputnik-network-2-768x503.png 768w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/sputnik-network-2-384x250.png 384w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social distribution networks<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DFRLab also surveyed the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/comprop.oii.ox.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2020\/04\/Coronavirus-Coverage-by-State-Backed-English-Language-News-Sources.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">social networking site Sputniks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the South Caucasus on Facebook and Twitter. The social networking site is &#8220;the sum of Facebook groups, Facebook pages and Twitter accounts that have shared at least one piece of content from the platform under study.&#8221; This indicator allows you to understand the total audience of the media on social networks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between 2019-2020 the total audience of the three Sputniks in the South Caucasus was 25 million. Local media, however, are more popular, their total audience was 40 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Facebook, that number was 18 million for Sputniks, almost double that for 35 million local media outlets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The image on Twitter is different: Sputnik has 8 million social media networks and about 5 million local media outlets.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Audience response to Sputnik content<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DFRLab measured the response of users to Sputnik, Facebook and Twitter. In the case of Facebook, this means that the center measured the comments, shares, likes and reactions (angry, surprised and other &#8220;likes&#8221;) left on Sputnik materials. Responses, retweets and likes were measured on Twitter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this case, too, the local media were more popular than Sputnik. For example, Sputnik Armenia and Sputnik Georgia have spread <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/media.am\/en\/verified\/2020\/05\/13\/21398\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">misinformation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the coronavirus is a biological weapon.
