{"id":23369,"date":"2020-07-20T10:54:23","date_gmt":"2020-07-20T10:54:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/media.am\/?p=23369"},"modified":"2020-07-22T13:57:10","modified_gmt":"2020-07-22T13:57:10","slug":"survey-48-of-armenians-encounter-misinformation-and-misleading-news-every-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/media.am\/en\/newsroom\/2020\/07\/20\/23369\/","title":{"rendered":"Survey: 48% Of Armenians Encounter Misinformation And Misleading News Every Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The International Republican Institute (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iri.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IRI<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">) conducted a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iri.org\/sites\/default\/files\/7.14.2020_armenia_survey_on_covid_19_response.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">public opinion poll<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to find out the attitude of Armenians towards the coronavirus measures, health crisis and sources of information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1517 Armenians took part in the poll, the poll was conducted over the phone. The data was collected between June 18-25.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">64% of respondents said they were very concerned about the spread of the coronavirus and thought that they, their relatives and friends could be infected. 9% said they were not worried at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To the question &#8220;Why aren&#8217;t you worried that you or any family member will be infected with the coronavirus?,&#8221; 46% answered that they feel safe because they follow the epidemic rules, and 18% said that Covid-19- is a false infection and a conspiracy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">71% of respondents are very worried that the infection will hit the economy hard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When asked about how government agencies are responding to the epidemic, the answer was that the police are working better (65%) and The Ministry of Health (64%), the Ministry of Economy (27%) has the worst score.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Both the Prime Minister and the Commandant are perceived more positively; the respondents are satisfied with their work. Despite the challenges of the crisis, the Armenian society trusts the Prime Minister (72% trust him a lot).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To the question, what are the effective sources of awareness on the days of the epidemic, the following answers were received.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">65% &#8211; The Prime Minister\u2019s posts and live videos on Facebook,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">15% &#8211; awareness through loudspeakers in the streets,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">13% &#8211; social media updates,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">11% &#8211; social advertising (videos and outdoor posters).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Interestingly, only 2% of respondents mentioned the effectiveness of TV advertising.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, television remains the primary source of information and political news (64%), followed by social media (62%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23022 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/info-sources.jpg\" alt=\"\u056f\u0578\u0580\u0578\u0576\u0561\u057e\u056b\u0580\u0578\u0582\u057d \u056b\u0576\u0586\u0578\u0580\u0574\u0561\u0581\u056b\u0561\u0575\u056b \u0561\u0572\u0562\u0575\u0578\u0582\u0580\u0576\u0565\u0580\" width=\"1113\" height=\"802\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/info-sources.jpg 1113w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/info-sources-300x216.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/info-sources-1024x738.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/info-sources-768x553.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1113px) 100vw, 1113px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But at the same time, television is mentioned as the primary information platform by people over the age of 50 (81%), and social media by young people aged 18-29 (83%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The list of reliable media is as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Public Television (18%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Shant (16%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Armenia (12%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Azatutyun (RFE\/RL) (9%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ArmNews (4%)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23024 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/media-outlets-1.jpg\" alt=\"\u057e\u057d\u057f\u0561\u0570\u0565\u056c\u056b \u0574\u0565\u0564\u056b\u0561\" width=\"1078\" height=\"763\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/media-outlets-1.jpg 1078w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/media-outlets-1-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/media-outlets-1-1024x725.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/media-outlets-1-768x544.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1078px) 100vw, 1078px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How often do you come across misleading information about the coronavirus in the media (also on social media)? This question also allows us to find out the skills of Armenians in analyzing media products.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Every day, said almost half of respondents &#8211; 48%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23018 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/grafika-35.jpg\" alt=\"\u0570\u0561\u0580\u0581\u0578\u0582\u0574 \u056f\u0578\u0580\u0578\u0576\u0561\u057e\u056b\u0580\u0578\u0582\u057d\" width=\"1060\" height=\"777\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/grafika-35.jpg 1060w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/grafika-35-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/grafika-35-1024x751.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/grafika-35-768x563.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1060px) 100vw, 1060px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reliable sources include the Commandant (57%), the Ministry of Health (50%), friends and family (41%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Russian media is considered very reliable by 14%, and Western international media by 8%.
