However, there were also a number of wrong statements about the Civil Aviation Committee and its problems.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Wrong statements about the scandal around the Civil Aviation Committee<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">On April 3, 168.am wrote that \u201cthe <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Tahoma','sans-serif'; color: black; background: white;\">International Civil Aviation Organization\u00a0(ICAO) has deprived Armenia\u2019s<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"> Civil Aviation Committee<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Tahoma','sans-serif'; color: black; background: white;\"> of a license.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">The story contained some mistakes \u2013 the same article stated that CAC had not been deprived of a license (international organizations are not eligible to license CAC or deprive it of a license.) In spite of that, this publication kick-started a continuous scandal around CAC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Far-right activists and \u201chidden\u201d Facebook users repeated the 168.am statements. They were republished by <a href=\"http:\/\/yerevan.today\/all\/politics\/52252\/chka-gone-mi-mard,-ory-patasxan-ta%D5%9D-inchi-vari-tvecin-hh-aviacian%E2%80%A4-kartsiq?fbclid=IwAR0WPhCR_gC31IrKOqK5mxxZjIDZKLQMMTudGrmf-twQAaWZ_MczPq8ZGE0\"><u>Yerevan.Today<\/u><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/hayeli.am\/?p=172388&amp;l=am&amp;fbclid=IwAR2Jg2GVO_-zL_fw6x6yFp4R2j06wsPm0ZC0zNzPSQzhBqCHrHbIldQdI-E\"> <u>Hayeli.am<\/u><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/analitik.am\/news\/view\/608376?fbclid=IwAR0q0JpWQ7FKgz6MCoTXPI1Mr5W3KfQxb_0GKLb_jVznA_GXVDqhwVU3rRY\"><u>Analitik.am<\/u><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">CAC published a clarification the following day. It turned out that the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) had discovered serious shortcomings in<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Tahoma','sans-serif'; color: black; background: white;\"> Armenia\u2019s CAC activities, suspending the flights of some Armenian air companies to Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">A few days later, it was reported that Hakob Chagharyan, the Prime Minister\u2019s adviser on aviation, had lost his position. Chagharyan had suggested the prime minister to involve &#8220;a team of real experts\u201d in CAC. Tatevik Revazyan, the head of CAC, said that there were serious problems in CAC, and it would take time to solve them.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Disinfo in Armenian language is disseminated from Azerbaijan<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">American Atlantic Council\u2019s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/dfrlab\/suspicious-accounts-spread-covid-19-disinfo-in-armenian-facebook-groups-3fd598fad8a2\">wrote<\/a> about the disinfo in Armenian Facebook groups spread by Azerbaijan in the days of the pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">The website reported that a Facebook post, alleging that COVID-19 had spread through an Armenian military unit, had been disseminated from several accounts, including the account of singer Armen Movsisyan. Movsisyan wrote that hackers had taken control of his fan page, and DFRLab noted that the page manager was located in Azerbaijan. The page has since been removed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Information security expert Samvel Martirosyan had also written about the Armenian-language disinfo spread from Azerbaijan.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Russian websites once again disseminated the fake info about Armenian laboratories<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On April 8, Russian <em>Moscow Komsomolets<\/em> newspaper published fake info about the labs of the Armenian National Center of Disease Control and Prevention.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper claimed that the \u201cPentagon-funded\u201d laboratories were sources of Coronavirus outbreaks, and that American virologists conducted clinical trials banned in the USA.<\/p>\n<p>Russian sites have often spread disinfo about those labs functioning in Armenia. <em>Moscow Komsomolets<\/em> newspaper was not the first one to publish Coronavirus-related claims &#8211; Cont.ws (which is not a news site) had published them back in March.<\/p>\n<p>Infocheck.am mentions that Armenian-based labs have been receiving support from Russia as well.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">A Harvard University professor has not created Coronavirus<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On April 6, armdaily.am wrote that \u201cthe \u201ccreator\u201d of Covid-19 for China was arrested in the United States.\u201d\u00a0The article claimed that a Harvard University professor had manufactured the new Coronavirus and sold it to China. There was a video piece attached to the article but there was not a single word about Coronavirus in it.<\/p>\n<p>The Harvard University professor was indeed arrested. However, it happened two months ago, on a completely different charge. He had received a 15 million USD grant from the US Department of Defense and the\u00a0National Institutes of Health. Meanwhile, he had also received 1.5 million USD from China for setting up a laboratory in Wuhan, <a href=\"https:\/\/fip.am\/en\/11110\">concealing<\/a> that fact from the US government, although it would have caused a conflict of interest.<\/p>\n<p>The fake news was quickly spread in the international and national online media, as well as the social media. The news was republished by <em>Iravunk<\/em> newspaper, yn.am and others. \u201cMushroom\u201d websites also published the fake info.<\/p>\n<p>Armdaily.am published a refutation, adding a note about the fake info in the primary article. Inga Martinyan, the deputy director of the news site informed about the fake info in her Facebook page, \u201cWe are sorry that this fake information was published also in our website.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Vaccination myths became more widespread<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In April, the press and the social media were actively circulating the myths and conspiracy theories about the expected Coronavirus vaccination.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most widespread statements was the claim that Coronavirus had been created by billionaire Bill Gates, in order to frighten people and make vaccinations mandatory. There was another popular narrative about \u201cchipping\u201d people. It claimed that \u201ca liquid chip\u201d would be injected through vaccines, allowing to track people.<\/p>\n<p>Gastroenterologist Hayk Manasyan disseminated another myth, claiming that people that had received flu vaccines were more vulnerable to Coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">On April 5, Health Minister Arsen Torosyan posted a status about the dangers of anti- vaccination activism.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">5G networks cannot contribute to the spread of Coronavirus \u2013 they can only provide a superfast Internet connection<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Coronavirus-related conspiracy theories were not limited to vaccination myths. For example, there were claims that 5G networks could cause Covid-19. 5G is a telecommunication technology providing a significantly faster Internet connection. 5G networks have just begun rolling out in various countries, and there are various conspiracy theories around them.<\/p>\n<p>One of the theories suggests that 5G networks cause Covid-19, or weakens the immune system, making people more susceptible to infection.<\/p>\n<p>5G-related conspiracy theories have been also spread by Karen Vardanyan, an IT expert and the CEO of the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-20907 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/\u057d\u0584\u0580\u056b\u0576\u0577\u0578\u0569-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1018\" height=\"878\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/\u057d\u0584\u0580\u056b\u0576\u0577\u0578\u0569-1.jpg 1018w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/\u057d\u0584\u0580\u056b\u0576\u0577\u0578\u0569-1-300x259.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/\u057d\u0584\u0580\u056b\u0576\u0577\u0578\u0569-1-768x662.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1018px) 100vw, 1018px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some Facebook users even threatened to break the 5G antennas as soon as they were set up in Armenia.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-20909 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/5G-conspiracy-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1456\" height=\"964\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/5G-conspiracy-2.jpg 1456w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/5G-conspiracy-2-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/5G-conspiracy-2-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/5G-conspiracy-2-768x508.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1456px) 100vw, 1456px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">5G networks do not emit harmful radiation, and v<span style=\"background: white;\">iruses cannot travel on radio waves.<\/span> World Health Organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/diseases\/novel-coronavirus-2019\/advice-for-public\/myth-busters\">mentions<\/a> that Coronavirus<span style=\"background: white;\"> is spreading in many countries that do not have 5G mobile networks (for example, in Armenia.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Treatment against Coronavirus has not been found yet<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On April 11 some media wrote that the most effective treatment against Coronavirus has been found. The sites referred to the statement of Veronika Skvortsova, the former Health Minister of Russia and the current head of the Russian Federal Medical and Biological Agency, \u201cMefloquine completely inhibits the replication of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in cell culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The info was spread by <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.vn\/OPlJe\">hraparak.am<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.vn\/HJ9jr\">Irakanum.am<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.vn\/seHWF\">armday.am<\/a> and other media.<\/p>\n<p>However, the claim about the most effective treatment against Coronavirus is completely <a href=\"http:\/\/media.am\/en\/mefloquine-is-not-an-internationally-confirmed-medicine-for-coronavirus\/\">wrong<\/a>.
