Both the name and the color design of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCxgWsgasweT07YigCoKcncQ\/videos?fbclid=IwAR1hizDFbcWbZ2z6Ttfv7FumbWmdpDpLbkDFSHxqyRS1eyv_XSZZW5_rpdk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Factor News Armenia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> are intended to resemble <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCkI5KAJDh9S-BQFc6QzSUiA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Factor TV<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> news.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Factor News Armenia spreads sensational and false information. Videos are titled, for example: &#8220;Lavrov confirmed: Levon left Artsakh out of negotiations &#8211; Lavrov, Pashinyan, Scandal,&#8221; &#8220;Nikol&#8217;s rating dropped: embarrassment- Nikol Pashinyan, Lfik Samo, Samvel Alexanyan, Karavarutyun&#8221; etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-18484 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/fake-media.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/fake-media.jpg 984w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/fake-media-273x300.jpg 273w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/fake-media-768x843.jpg 768w, https:\/\/media.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/fake-media-933x1024.jpg 933w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 984px) 100vw, 984px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Earlier in November, another page mimicking the media was active on Facebook &#8211; the BBC News Russian service. This page also spread misinformation. As of November 14, the page has been removed from Facebook.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fake news and its denial in one article<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On November 11, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/politik.am\/nman-khosakcutyun-texi-chi-unecel-vladimir-karapetyan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Politik.am<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, citing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.am\/?p=269465&amp;l=am\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Times.am<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, wrote that Nikol Pashinyan had responded to a protest demanding the resignation of Minister of ESCS Arayik Harutyunyan. \u201cEven if 10,000 people take to the streets, even if they go on a 24-hour sit-in, it isn&#8217;t worth one cent to me. Arayik Harutyunyan will continue to serve.&#8221; The article was reprinted by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/168.am\/2019\/11\/11\/1201774.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">168.am<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iravunk.com\/news\/98062\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Iravunk newspaper<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and a number of mushroom sites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Immediately after quoting the statement, in the same article, Politik.am stated that it was false.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The newspaper presents the words of Prime Minister&#8217;s Spokesman Vladimir Karapetyan, &#8220;no such conversation had taken place, the Prime Minister has stated his views publicly during a meeting with demonstrators and live broadcasts.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Although Karapetyan denied the information, ARF Dashnaktsutyun member Lilit Galstyan <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/yZBwxWX5fvc?t=1540\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">speculated about it<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on Radio Liberty.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The false rumors about the Istanbul Convention aren&#8217;t stopping<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/yerevan.today\/all\/society\/42869\/nranq-arden-vaveracrel-en-stambulyan-konvencian-politik-am?fbclid=IwAR1Oy3M3fwxX3Bk9NkmjyTcL1hYKhPWbC48bAc9xONYIAnYCLb-b7o2SH8g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yerevan.Today<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, citing <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/politik.am\/transvestitnery-lgbt-forum-en-anckacrel-tsaxkadzorum-lusankarner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Politik.am<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, published an article titled &#8220;They have already ratified the Istanbul Convention\u2024\u2024\u2024&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The title is manipulative: The article does not mention the Istanbul Convention. Instead, an attempt is made to link the convention to LGBT community-related topics, as the article is entirely devoted to the recent Rainbow Forum organized by Pink Armenia, an NGO for the protection of LGBT rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is worth noting that the title related to the Istanbul Convention was added by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/yerevan.today\/all\/society\/42869\/nranq-arden-vaveracrel-en-stambulyan-konvencian-politik-am?fbclid=IwAR1Oy3M3fwxX3Bk9NkmjyTcL1hYKhPWbC48bAc9xONYIAnYCLb-b7o2SH8g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yerevan.Today<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and that the title of the original article is different.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Speculation about LGBT issues are also continuing<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In November, MP Gevorg Petrosyan suggested <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=H5i0xRF61_0&amp;t=1s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">banning same-sex marriages<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (which are not allowed), and MP Vardan Ghukasyan announced that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/DgyZ5OdrTd8?t=435\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">King Pap should be &#8220;cut out from national history&#8221;<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> because he was gay.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The media also joined the politicians in speculating the topic. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20191114182759\/http:\/\/web.archive.org\/screenshot\/http:\/\/politik.am\/iranum-miaserakan-e-kakhaxan-hanvel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Politik.am published<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> an article which was published months ago in The Jerusalem Post, that homosexuals were hanged in Iran.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is worth mentioning that Politik.am noted that &#8220;Iran is one of the 700 countries in the world where homosexuality is considered a criminal offense,&#8221; although there are only about 200 states in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mel Daluzyan is the 19th athlete in the Armenian National team to have tested positive for doping<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Referring to the film about Mel Daluzyan, PAP MP, Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=575292339957828&amp;set=a.101936020626798&amp;type=3&amp;theater\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Naira Zohrabyan stated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, &#8220;Due to Daluzyan&#8217;s doping scandal, Armenia&#8217;s weightlifting team is in serious doubt at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and the participation of the Armenian team is yet to be discussed on May 31.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Earlier, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/analitik.am\/news\/view\/566753?fbclid=IwAR2GTeUycfh6e4woygx0U4xFOIqZXMU30d2iFSVHdp0jLudOz1LtsOstPTg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Analitik.am also claimed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that Daluzyan was to blame for the disqualification of the Armenian national team. However, both Zohrabyan and Analitik.am distorted the facts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the International Weightlifting Federation regulations, countries with more than 20 positive doping tests will be able to represent up to two athletes at the 2020 Tokyo Games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In May 2019 it became known that Mel Daluzyan had a positive doping test. This was the 19th positive test of the Armenian national team. Fip.am has released <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fip.am\/9198\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a list of athletes who have tested positiv<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">e.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Naira Zohrabyan edited the post, adding the phrase &#8220;also because of Daluzyan&#8217;s doping scandal.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There is an error in Hraparak newspaper&#8217;s calculations<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hraparak daily <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hraparak.am\/post\/4cbd18baf8e4e769c89483ac26461fd6?fbclid=IwAR0dZ3_stxH2Rbp_c_Lj4pvZ6EP7yrqag0dZgJtFpoMeVyE6LTUNPi8WAeg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">wrote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that the number of diplomatic passports issued by the Prime Minister after the revolution is not 19, as the authorities claim, but 500-600.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This number was obtained by applying the &#8220;simple math&#8221; to the paper, including those holding diplomatic passports, the 19 mentioned above, and their family members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is wrong. According to the Prime Minister&#8217;s decision, only 19 people,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/infocheck.am\/am\/posts\/207?fbclid=IwAR3m7iqC1X0zMgdF-mouI4uGZU--5QQIcNzLG77MMVx2NmybFf6eWrY3TiU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> not their family members<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, were issued diplomatic passports.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Moreover, this number should be considered separately from the number of diplomatic officials who hold passports. In the case of the latter, the family members also receive a diplomatic passport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The fate of the &#8220;History of the Armenian Church&#8221; is not known yet<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the first half of November, there was a widespread discussion of teaching the subject of the &#8220;History of the Armenian Church&#8221; in elementary school.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This discussion started with misinformation.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On October 30, Haykakan Zhamanak <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.armtimes.com\/hy\/article\/172754\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">published<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> an interview with Arevik Anapiosyan, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of ESCS, titled &#8220;There will be no &#8216;History of the Armenian Church&#8217; in schools: the subject will be taught integrated with Armenian History or with a different title and content.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Although working groups have already been set up, no decision has been made on the subject. In the interview, Anapiosyan expressed her personal opinion and added that the decision has not been made yet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The governor of Kotayk is credited for a claim he didn&#8217;t make<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/168.am\/2019\/10\/29\/1195608.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">168.am wrote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that &#8220;In the words of Romanos Petrosyan, the governor of Kotayk, he too is rewarded every month as per the secret order of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the video attached to the article, however, Romanos Petrosyan makes no such statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><b>Karine Ghazaryan<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the first half of November, misinformation was also being spread by fake news pages, and in some cases, the fake news could be checked by the content in the articles themselves.
