Haykakan Jamanak Received Nikol Pashinyan’s Letters

Nikol Pashinyan’s letters have reached the editorial offices of local daily Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”). Note, Pashinyan is the chief editor of the paper and is currently imprisoned in Artik penitentiary.

According to the paper, the envelopes that contained Pashinyan’s letters, which he had handed over to the prison staff in the presence of Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg, were opened then resealed.

“As for who opened them, and in such an incompetent way, is not hard to guess. This is a violation of the law because Article 92 Section 5 of the RA Criminal Code is defined as follows: ‘Correspondence is conducted through the administration of the correctional institution and, without knowing the contents of the correspondence, is subject to external inspection, with the aim of excluding the transfer of prohibited articles or materials’,” reports the paper.
