The answer to the question “What is corruption?” can be found succinctly not only online or in any dictionary, but also on the wall of one of Yerevan’s pedestrian underpasses.

Translation: “Corruption (from Latin corruptiō): deterioration, perversion, defilement, profanation, decay

The anti-corruption strategy of the Republic of Armenia defines corruption as follows: “Corruption is the abuse of official power in various (active and inactive) ways in pursuit of a personal interest or other pecuniary ends.”

And according to the Law on Corruption Prevention, corruption is a social and political legal phenomenon expressed by public servants and employees of non-governmental organizations in using the opportunities arising from their power and status for personal, group, and social interests.
